9 Lives ‘Til Midnight
is a noir-themed adventure game, one of three large-scale capstone projects developed at the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy over the course of seven months.

9 Lives is set in the world of Cat City: once a refuge for cats, the city is now overrun by a crime syndicate that keeps the population docile with a plague of catnip abuse. Players take the role of Sonny Ray, a retired city guard, who has lost his love to Cat City’s criminal underground. But Sonny’s not your average furball. Through the use of the Nine Lives Mechanic, Sonny has the ability to call forth multiple lives, up to nine instances of himself, into a given situation. This mechanic gives players the ability to relive moments of the adventure in order to “self-cooperate” with an exact recording of their past actions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Created original game concept, fiction and core mechanic
  • Designed replay mechanic and NPC interaction core systems
  • Designed dialogue, inventory, and other sub-systems and mechanics
  • Prototyped and documented game mechanics and missions
  • Designed and implemented game puzzles with a proprietary tool
  • Scripted character interactions, fiction and dialogue-based hints for all puzzles
